Phil and I caught enough fish on Sunday to break the 30 lb barrier and moved up six place to end up 12th. It is very rare to catch 30lb and not get a check. The anglers are getting better and the fish are getting bigger. If there had been a multi species award it would have gone to Phil. On Sunday he caught smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, a fall fish and pretty sure he had a muskie on as well. All on the same bait.
It was fun to fish a bigger event again and the credit goes to the directors of the New Brunswick Sport Fishing Association and the New Brunswick Bass Tour for coming together to make this happen. The weigh in was smooth thanks to Skippy and his crew.
The new marina and ramps in the Town of Nackawic are fantastic as was the Town’s support for the event. Thank you to all of the sponsors who stepped up to help with all of the great prize packages that were offered. A few that come to mind are Shimano Canada, Lowrance Electronics, Duckett rods, Minnow Tackle, Berkley, Lucky Strike, AV Group NB, Town of Nackawic, Phil’s Auto and Recrecation and Doiron Sports.
With a little luck we can do more combined events to build the fields and make these tournaments bigger and better.
What worked best for me this weekend was a Jackall ReRange 110 in Secret Shad rigged with 10lb mono on a 270M Zodias rod and a 2500 Stradic reel. Tried some other colours but that was the one they wanted. Like a lot of the other teams we caught a bunch of fish but the big ones were hard to find.
